Mugwort

Artemisia vulgaris

An emmenagogue long known as the Protector of Women & Travelers and the first herb to pique my attention and made me want to deep dive into scientific, ancestral, and medicinal herbal knowledge. I was seeking to pivot to an herbal treatment for my menstrual cycle and learn more about contraceptive lore, mugwort was the perfect place to begin my studies. Men can drink mugwort too, but instead of anything physical their experiences tend to deal with their sleep, enrichening the quality of their dreams and even lucid dreaming.

For my personal use, I only consume it around the beginning and end of my cycle due to the powerful effects it can have on a woman’s hormones. Mugwort is a muscle relaxer which targets the pelvic floor. I recommend my feminine followers to work with mugwort in a similar method as I do, as long as they aren’t trying to get pregnant. Women who are prioritizing their fertility should consider herbs like red raspberry & motherwort to support a healthy pregnancy.

Mugwort can be consumed in a myriad of ways, but my favorites are through a tincture or teas. It’s smokable, drinkable, and can even be used as a hot pad for the stomach after steaming the herbs.
