Lemon Balm
Melissa officinalis, Balm mint, Blue balm Garden balm, Honey plant, Sweet balm
A widely respected herb for treating anxieties and relieving stress across the globe, lemon balm is a multifaceted herb from the mint family. Studies have suggested that lemon balm possesses strong topical healing properties by the way of quickly clearing up skin irritations and HSV complications thanks to the high amount of antibacterial properties found.
When consumed, lemon balm can help assist the process of mind-body-spirit relaxation. Aside from the emotional medicine, this herb can provide, it also acts as a cleansing tonic for all of our fluids. A handful of studies have pointed that lemon balm promoted a deeper night’s sleep, along with heightened alertness overall. Some herbalists claim it can strengthen our brains, making us more resilient to stress and shock. I would recommend a tea with skullcap for someone going through a particularly stressful time, as long as you aren’t currently taking any prescribed sedative, thyroid, or HIV medications.
I add lemon balm to a few of my sleepy time tea recipes, and it’s included in many of my (unreleased) sleep aid extracts.
